The
Evans River Experience
Starting 10 km upriver we travel with
the tide for approximately 4 hours including stops for picnic
lunch, visiting the midden site (mounds of shells from Aboriginal
food gathering) at Bundjalung
National Park, and swimming in clear waters and sandy river
beaches.
Observing flora and fauna as we travel
from the upper river brackish waters to an estuarine environment,
as our guides explain about the natural features and history
of the local area.
The experience finishes with a swim
close to showers, amenities, and a kiosk.

Exploring the Estuary Eco-
tour
Starting near the mouth of the Evans
River at high tide we travel approximately 3km upstream, concentrating
on exploring the mangroves of Snake Island and Oyster Creek (see
list below of wildlife we may encounter!). We then go for a short
walk in Bundjalung National Park to visit the Aboriginal midden
site and weeding tree. Then back in the kayaks for a short paddle
to a secluded sandy beach for a picnic and refreshing swim.
Wildlife
living in this area:
- Mangroves: diversity of crabs, oysters, fish, and waterbirds.
Dollphins, sea turtles, and rays are often seen ....
- Migratory seabirds, vulnerable species such as the Pied Oystercatcher,
birds of prey such as white-breasted sea eagle, Osprey, Brahminy
Kite
- Mammals such as echidnas and grey kangaroos
- Reptiles such as snakes and Goannas
